One of our ISA activities for the children of Std. 2 was a comparative study of the
longest river in India, River Ganges, with three other rivers of the world - River
Nile from Africa, River Amazon from South America and River Thames from U.K.
An
introduction to the topic:
Ms. Namita Ambasht introduced the topic to our children
of Std 2 through an interactive session.

Origin
and mapping:
Children learn about the journey of River Ganges from the mighty Gangotri glacier
to the largest delta on our planet – the Sunderbans.
Reinforcement of the
journey of the Ganges through dramatization as also depicting the different
tributaries of River Ganges
Children trace the route of the River Ganges and its tributaries, from the source
to the mouth and mark important cities and towns along the banks of the river.

Flora
and Fauna
Flora and fauna, a favourite topic with children was
executed in different ways – through worksheets, a fancy dress parade as well as
presentations.

Children were excited to be a part of the fancy
dress parade. They also solved jigsaw puzzles based on the magnificent creatures
of the Amazon and enjoyed reading about the same.

Children learnt about the different festivals celebrated and the monuments built around each of the four river basins.

Threats and Solution
After an interesting discussion on threats to River
Ganges, children take a pledge to do their bit to keep our river systems clean.
